Thoracic Surgery

Precision surgery for the chest. Expertise you can trust.

Our Thoracic Surgery Department provides specialist surgical care for diseases of the lungs, pleura, mediastinum, chest wall, and trachea. The thoracic cavity houses structures that are fundamental to life and surgery within it demands a level of precision, experience, and institutional support that leaves no margin for compromise.

What We Treat

Our thoracic surgeons manage lung cancer and other pulmonary malignancies, pleural effusion and empyema, pneumothorax, mediastinal tumors and cysts, thymoma and thymic conditions, tracheal stenosis, chest wall deformities and tumors, bronchopleural fistula, and pulmonary metastasectomy in the context of systemic malignancy. We also perform Hyperhidrosis surgery (ETS). Both primary thoracic conditions and surgical complications arising from other disease processes are within our scope.

Minimally Invasive, Robotic Thoracic Surgery

Where clinically appropriate, our surgeons apply video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), uniportal VATS techniques and Robotic Surgery (RATS); minimally invasive approaches that significantly reduce surgical trauma, postoperative pain, and recovery time compared to open thoracotomy. These techniques require a high level of surgical skill and are performed by experienced thoracic surgeons with dedicated training in endoscopic chest surgery. Our commitment is to the least invasive approach that achieves the best oncological and functional outcome.

Thoracic Oncology

Lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies require a coordinated oncological response from the outset. Our thoracic surgeons are core members of the multidisciplinary tumor board collaborating with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pulmonologists, radiologists, and pathologists to ensure that every thoracic oncology case is staged accurately, planned strategically, and executed with surgical precision. Neoadjuvant and adjuvant treatment pathways are integrated into the surgical plan where indicated.

Integrated Perioperative Care

Thoracic surgery patients require meticulous perioperative management, from pre-operative pulmonary function optimisation through intraoperative anaesthetic precision to post-operative chest physiotherapy and pain control. Our thoracic surgeons work within a fully integrated perioperative team including anaesthesiologists, intensivists, physiotherapists, and specialist nursing staff to ensure that every patient is prepared, supported, and recovered with the same level of attention that the surgery itself demands.

Why Güven?

With experienced thoracic surgeons, advanced minimally invasive surgical capability, and a fully integrated oncology and critical care infrastructure, our Thoracic Surgery Department delivers chest surgery that is technically accomplished, multidisciplinary in approach, and uncompromising in its commitment to patient outcomes from the operating theatre through to full recovery.

Emergency thoracic surgery procedures include the removal of foreign bodies from the trachea (airway) and esophagus, as well as the surgical and non-surgical management of lung and chest wall injuries. In addition to performing surgical treatments, the Thoracic Surgery Department also plays an active role in the early diagnosis of thoracic diseases. Postoperative patient care is carried out collaboratively by thoracic surgeons, intensive care specialists, respiratory physiotherapists, and nurses. Furthermore, advanced pain management techniques such as Patient-Controlled Analgesia (PCA) and Epidural Analgesia are applied to ensure patient comfort after surgery.
